Konnichiwa and Hello!

My name is Jon, I’m an American who will be living in Japan for 9 months. I haven’t really traveled outside of the U.S. before so this is going to be especially interesting since my sense of direction is absolutely atrocious. I’ve always said that, when lost, I’m going on an adventure. In this case my adventure starts every time I step outside. There’s something about our aversion towards unfamiliarity that breeds discovery. I want to discover.

This blog is proof that Science is an incredible endeavor and brings together the world in many unique ways! I am a graduate student in Materials Science & Engineering at the University of Delaware, and spend a portion of my time working in R&D for a company that develops materials in the electronics industry. My education at UD has helped me develop some skills  useful for this company and without the guidance of my advisor none of this would be possible. Yes, this is a shameless plug for UD and it’s Materials Science Department.
